The 129th RQS is the operational unit of the group and has flown the HC-130N/P and HH-60G since May 1975 and 1990, respectively. The unit was established in April 1955 as the 129th Air Resupply Squadron at Hayward MAP, with the C-46D initially and the SA-16A soon afterwards. The unit joined the 129th Troop Carrier Group in January 1962, with the U-10 added in 1963 followed by the C-119C. Designation was changed to 129th Air Commando Squadron in 1963 and Special Operations Squadron in 1968. The unit converted to the C-119G and later the C-119L, until May 1975 when the HC-130P and HH-3E were assigned and the unit became the 129th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron. The unit moved to NAS Moffett Field in 1980 and became an Air Rescue Squadron, before exchanging the HH-3E for the MH-60G and adding the HC-130N. The MH-60G was subsequently changed to HH-60G.
